Port Harcourt City FC yesterday failed to honour their Aiteo Cup Round of 32 match in Abuja paving the way for El-Kanemi Warriors to walk them over. Walk over formalities were consducted by match officials after the mandatory 30 minutes of grace. With this development, El Kanemi Warriors are through to Round 16 of the FA Cup and will meet Bendel Insurance who defeated Ekiti United 4-2.
Meanwhile, the Aiteo Cup Desk Officer, Emmanuel Adesanya said that the Port Harcourt side contacted him around 12noon on Wednesday to confirm their unavailability due to lack of funds.
He further said the team will be punished for not honouring the game even as he did not disclose the nature of punishment to be meted out to the erring club. “The club called to inform us of their inability to make it because of lack of funds. “We will definitely look into this case and apply the necessary sanctions on the team in due course”, he concluded.
