Recipient Alleges NDDC Scholarship Program Is Designed for Staff to Embezzle Funds

As the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) continues to come under attack over allegations of corruption, an NDDC scholarship recipient, Emmanuel Ogolo, has narrated to Nigeria Info (92.3) in Port Harcourt how he got fed up and lost his admission trying to raise money to go for studies abroad after the Commission refused to release money for his travel and tuition.
Ogolo also alleged that the NDDC scholarship program is an avenue for staff to embezzle funds meant for the programme.

Ogolo said he hopes the probe will bring out something positive in the commission.

Meanwhile Rab’iu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano state over the weekend said the rampant corrupt practices in NDDC made him resign from the agency in 2010.

Kwankwaso said he decided to resign from the board of the NDDC because he didn’t want to take part in the corruption being carried out in the agency.

He pointed out that greed and desperation by government officials to accumulate wealth was the cause of the corruption in the NDDC.
