Secretary of the Ikokwu spare parts traders union, Nnamdi Levi has appealed to the Rivers State Police Command to tackle the issue of extortion by the security agents and cultists on traders.
Nnamdi Levi said the traders are constantly harassed by cultists, touts and security agents which impede on their business.
Levi made the appeal when the Ikokwu spare parts traders union paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Police, Joseph Mukan in his office in Port Harcourt.
He urged the CP to look into the issues raised with a view to tackling the matter.
Responding, Mukan assured the traders that security will be beefed up around the market ares to enable the traders conduct their business.
He also promised to look into the issues of cultism around the mile 2 to 3 area and ordered that the committee set up to address police extortions, touting along the Ikokwu market road should meet and come up with resolutions latest Friday.
He also gave matching order for those fixing their vehicles along the roadside in Ikokwu to vacate the area on or before Friday.
The police boss said the Governor Nyesom Wike had earlier issued the same order for those who had converted the roadside to mechanic workshop to move them or face the law.
He also assured the traders that Chima lkwunado and Ikokwu 4 matter will be concluded latest Friday this week.
He said he ordered a retrial of the matter because he was not satisfied with the charges pressed on the officers indicted in the matter, stressing that a situation where someone is culpable of murder and a lesser charge is preferred against the person is bad omen.
