Commercial Driver Ready to Testify on Behalf of Widow who was Allegedly Raped for failing to Wear Face Mask





The Commercial driver who was conveying the widow allegedly raped till day break in Saapenwa, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State has come out to say the accused cops also threatened other passengers in his vehicle for pleading on behalf of the lady.
The driver who spoke with East West Reporters and identified himself as Lucky said despite entreaties from all the passengers in the vehicle to the police officers to allow the woman go, the police officers refused.

He recounts that when the situation began to get out of hand, he quickly offered the lady a spare face mask but the cops insisted that she should alight from the Store which was heading to Eleme from Bori.

He further alleged that he offered Five Hundred  naira to the police officers but they refused to free the widow.

"Even an elderly old man inside the vehicle also came down knelt down for the men to forgive the lady but they insisted they must arrest the lady and take her to Quarantine center, and threatened to shoot the four tyres of my vehicle," he claimed.

He said other passengers onboard became apprehensive given the constant threats  by the cops and ordered him to move out of the scene for their safety since the policemen had threatened to take her to police station
He recalled that they left the scene at about 7PM that evening.

Mr. Lucky expressed shock to hear that the widow was later raped by the same police officers.

He said: "I heard the news over the radio that the lady was raped till daybreak. I am ready to offer any form of assistance to that woman. I am also a married man with children and would not cover such heinous crime . If the police needs the truth, they should contact us. I am sure other passengers are also willing to testify over what happened before the rape incident transpired".
