The Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District, Betty Apiafi, Thursday engaged a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) certified trainer to provide an intensive training programme for women in the district.
The training was for small and medium scale female business operators across the eight Local Government Areas that make up the Senatorial District as part of the requirements for participants to access the CBN AGRI-BUSINESS, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES INVESTMENT SCHEME (AGSMEIS) loan.
Beneficiaries of the scheme numbering about 300, were trained on prospective business ventures that are sustainable, ranging from farming, fishing, cosmetic production, as well as manufacturing.
Information was also shared on best management practices to improve profitability of these businesses.
City News gathered that the participants were also properly guided to apply for the loan.
Senator Apiafi at the event urged the women to use the money wisely, when given and to ensure the funds are invest the business ventures for which they were allowed.
She clarified that the loans are long term with minimal interest rates, as CBN has released the funds to aid businesses thrive during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
