Onelga Community Urges AGIP to Vacate their Land over Failure to Sign MOU

The chiefs, elders, and opinion leaders including youths and women of Idu-Obosiukwu in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers state are demanding that the Nigeria Agip Oil Company Limited vacate their land over alleged marginalization of the community.
The members of the community said they came to this painful resolution after reviewing series of anti-people activities of Agip since it began operations in the area fifty years ago.

This demand was made known to journalists during a peaceful protest at the gas flow station located in the community yesterday.

The leadership of the community is alleging that since Agip started oil operation and later gas exploration, the community cannot boast of any meaningful benefits from the company.

The paramount ruler, His Royal Highness Bright Orukwo, opinion leaders women,  youths among others participated in the peaceful protest.

They said their demands are premised on the allegations that Agip Company for more than twenty-one years have failed to a signed a memorandum of understanding with the community despite all efforts.

His Royal Highness, Bright Orukwo said Agip has refused to treat them as their host community despite hosting the gas plant that feeds the rest of their oil installations in the Niger-Delta region.
