Port Harcourt Woman Fights for Life After Alleged Stabbing by Fiancé

A young woman, Orinemi Ayanate, is currently in critical condition in a hospital on Odili Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following an alleged stabbing by her fiancé during a heated disagreement. The incident, which has sparked outrage across the city, highlights the growing concern over domestic violence in the region.

In a distressing video circulating on social media, Ayanate, visibly injured and covered in blood, pleaded for help, saying, “IB did this to me. Help me and call mummy on WhatsApp.” The footage has triggered widespread condemnation and demands for justice against the alleged perpetrator, identified only as “IB.”

According to witnesses, the suspect fled the scene after taking Ayanate’s phone, handbag, and wig. Neighbours acted swiftly, rushing her to the hospital, where she received urgent medical attention, including four packs of blood to address severe bleeding.

Promise Wosu Junior, a close friend of Ayanate and known locally as Wene Port Harcourt, described the incident as a horrific case of domestic violence. “This relationship has been abusive for some time, but this attack is the worst yet,” Wosu stated. “We are calling on the Rivers State Police Command to investigate thoroughly and ensure the perpetrator faces justice.”

The incident has galvanised friends, activists, and community members, who are pressing for the immediate arrest of the suspect. They have also raised alarms about the increasing cases of violence against women in Port Harcourt and across Rivers State, urging authorities to take decisive action.

As of now, the Rivers State Police Command has been notified but has not released an official statement. Ayanate’s friends have encouraged journalists to speak with her once she recovers enough to share her story, ensuring her voice is heard and the incident is fully documented.

The Port Harcourt community remains in solidarity with Ayanate, hoping for her speedy recovery and demanding accountability for this act of violence.
