Rivers Angels Celebrate Historic 10th Federation Cup Win with ₦50 Million Reward

 


Rivers Angels Football Club, the pride of Rivers State, clinched their 10th President’s Federation Cup Women’s title in a thrilling 4-2 penalty shootout victory against Nasarawa Amazons at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos. This monumental achievement solidifies their status as the most successful team in the competition’s history, according to BSNSports.com.ng.

In recognition of this feat, the Rivers State Government, led by Sole Administrator Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, awarded the team a ₦50 million cash prize. Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), represented the Administrator at the final and shared his excitement:

"This is absolutely unprecedented. There’s nothing like it. We are proud as Rivers men and women that our girls achieved such a feat. It’s a wonderful feeling. There are no words to describe it."

Before the match, Prof. Worika delivered the Administrator’s message of support, assuring the team of the state’s unwavering commitment. The ₦50 million reward honors the players and officials for their exceptional performance and for elevating Rivers State’s pride.

The Administrator also urged Team Rivers athletes who secured medals at the 2024 National Sports Festival to remain dedicated, with plans underway to fulfill earlier reward commitments.

Team Manager Mrs. Matilda Otuenne credited the victory to divine grace and the team’s relentless effort. This triumph adds to Rivers Angels’ illustrious record, with previous titles in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and earlier in 2024.
