RUMUEKINI YOUTHS ACCUSE SARS OF HARASSMENT

The men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and the IGP monitoring team in Rivers State have been accused by youths in Rumuekini community of harassing and illicitly arresting young people in the area. They claim the actions are aimed at intimidating them into yielding to the decision of some chiefs in the community.

Former Financial Secretary of Rumuekini Youths, Emmanuel Chukwu said the security operatives started the harassment and indiscriminate arrest after youths in the community opposed the decision of some chiefs to sell community land without approval. He also said the commander of IGP’s monitoring team in Aluu led some operatives to forcefully take their cars.

Mr. Chukwu called on the Inspector General of Police, the Rivers State Governor, and the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, to call the police men to order. He said the actions of the security operatives have been testing their tolerance, but the youths have resolved to not descend to the use of violence in matter.

The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police command Nnamdi Omoni has denied any knowledge of such arrests and harassment.
