FIRE DISASTER AVERTED ON CFC ROUND ABOUT BY FIRE SERVICE OFFICERS

Men of the Fire Service in Rivers State, Federal Road Safety Commission, and the Civil Defence Corps in a combined effort, responded to an incident that could have been a disastrous fire outbreak on Aba Road, in Port Harcourt.

The men cordoned off the area where a truck loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) fell and spilled its content this morning. The road safety officers managed the traffic in the area, while fire men moved to control the disaster, and the civil defence officers saw to it that order was maintained. The incident happened close to the zonal office of the FRSC by CFC bridge, on Aba Road.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Orukwem Amadi Oparaeli visited the scene of the incident. He commended the law enforcement agencies and the fire service for their quick response to the situation.

In situations like this, the greater risk is when passers-by pounce on the spilled content to loot petrol in household or commercial quantities, risking an explosion. The cause of the tanker’s fall has not yet been determined, but mechanical and human error are the top suspected causes in cases like these. The truck was still at the scene at the time of this report
