Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has charged new Caretaker Committee Chairmen in the state to strive to serve their people diligently .
Swearing in the Caretaker Committee Chairmen and a Commissioner at the Government House Port Harcourt on Monday, Governor Wike advised them against pursuing financial gains.
The governor said no amount of wealth gained through fraudulent means while serving in councils will sustain the new council chiefs.
He said: "My advice is that you should use the two months of your service to leave a legacy behind. If you serve to the satisfaction of your people, it is to your advantage ".
He directed all local government areas in the state to build office accommodation for the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency.
The governor said that in the interim, the councils should provide office spaces for the neighbourhood safety corps agency, pending the construction of their offices.
The governor warned the council caretaker committee chairmen against using council resources to sponsor candidates for local government primaries.
He stated that the party has cancelled the PDP councillorship primaries of Degema Local Government Area. He added that all the chairmanship aspirants from that area have been disqualified on account of violent conduct.
Governor Wike also said that the same situation may apply to Asari-Toru Local Government Area where there are signs of violent conduct by the aspirants and their supporters.
Sworn-in as Honourable Commissioner is; Mr Akuro Alfred Tobin. The new Caretaker Committee Chairmen sworn-in are: Ere Victor (Andoni), Mr Azubuike Odum (Emohua), Nathaniel Pairo (Gokana), Father Lawrence Bagbe (Khana), Dere Ofokome (Okrika) and Mbakpone Friday (Tai).
