Traditional Medicine Practitioners to set up task force to fight quacks in Rivers State



The National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners NANTMP, Rivers State Chapter, has declared its readiness to fight quacks and illegal practices in the profession.

The Chairman of the Association in Rivers State Nyefibo Nyefibo while disclosing this to our correspondent said that the body will soon set-up a task force to checkmate the excesses of these illegal operators in the state.
Nyefibo Nyefibo noted that the association is poised to sanitize the traditional medical profession in Rivers State stressing that the sector has been hijacked by marketers who are now parading themselves as traditional medicine practitioners.
He stated that the move is to ensure the safety of the herbal drugs in circulation in Rivers State and also to create awareness on the best way of practising traditional medicine practice.
”A lot of people are doing it the wrong way. You can go to the streets of Port Harcourt, all nooks and corner, you can see one form of traditional medicine practice on the other which we kick against and we are doing everything possible within our power to see that we curb this menace in Rivers State” he said
”We have put a lot of mechanism in place to checkmate the excessive of the wrong practice in Rivers State. In fact, any moment from now, a task force will be on who will be going after these people to make sure they are brought to book” he noted.
Nyefibo also assured Rivers people of the Genuity of herbal drugs because they are registered with NAFDAC.
He also advised the public to always source their herbal drugs by going to the offices of genuine traditional medicine practitioners and not inside a bus or open marketplace.
Nyefibo Nyefibo added that the traditional medicine practitioners will continue to produce quality drugs that will be very useful in eliminating different diseases in the country.
