GOV WIKE VOWS THAT RSG WILL SUPPORT MISSION SCHOOLS

The Rivers State Government says it would continue to support Missions Schools whenever necessary.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike stated this during the dedication of a New Administrative Library and Laboratories Complex at Bishop Crowther Memorial Secondary School, Diocese of Evo Anglican Communion, in Port Harcourt.

Represented by his Deputy Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo Governor Wike said at inception in 2015, his administration’s commitment to provide quality education for the citizenry necessitated the decision to amend the law to enable the State Government support Mission Schools, in view of the fact that education is a thing of partnership.

Governor Wike who said provision of quality education for the citizenry is a major policy thrust of his Administration, disclosed that he paid the counterpart funds to access the Universal Basic Education Funds which the State could not access for years because of the failure of the past Administration to fulfil its obligations, noting that schools in the State have now experienced a massive infrastructural overhaul.

According to him 70% of the State Budget is for Capital Projects with education receiving great attention while 30% is for recurrent expenditure, stressing that education is key to socio- economic and political development of the society.

While dedicating the Complex, Archbishop of the Niger Delta Province, The Most Rev. Babatunde Adeleye who urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity to get an all-round quality education prayed the Almighty God to help the Children to get to the pinnacle of the society.

The Principal of the School, Rev. Cannon Chimaobi Chieme had earlier said the school which was founded in 1985 as a Junior Seminary School, by the Late Bishop Samuel Elenwo, exists to raise children who should be sound spiritually, academically and should also be icons in bringing about the much needed social transformation.
