At least eight persons were reportedly killed in Opouku and Bangha communities in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday as gunmen sustained their attacks on communities in the LGA.

The homes of the Traditional Ruler of Bangha, HRH T. W. Baridam, Gben-Neme Bangha, and that of the local government chairman of Knana, Lahteh Loolo were burnt during the attack which began in the early hours of Sunday.

Recall that the gunmen had on Tuesday burnt down the homes of the president of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, Legborsi Pyagbara, and the traditional ruler of Taabaa community, S. K. M Nule in what insiders say was targetted at influential people in the LGA.

Six persons were killed in Opouku according to community sources while two others were killed in Bangha.

Mustapha Dandaura, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers, while confirming the incident, disputed the number of casualties, adding that only three persons were confirmed killed.
