Rivers PDP Leadership intervenes in Council Chairmen-Councillors Face-off

...Cautions Councillors to stop issuing threats of impeachment on Council Chairmen

The Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Desmond Akawor intervened in the face-off between some Local Government Chairmen and councillors of their respective Legislative Assemblies.
Amb. Akawor also cautioned the 23 Legislative Assemblies to desist from playing to the gallery by issuing needless impeachment notices on their Chairmen without attempting to reslove issues internally.

Recall the Chairmen of Andoni, ogba/Egbema/Ndoni and most recently Eleme have recently survived impeachment moves by councillors in their respective council areas over alleged misappropriation of funds.

But the state PDP Chairman in a meeting with the leaders of the 23 Local Government Legislative Assembly in the state urged them to settle their internal matters maturedly and without any spectacle.

Amb. Akawor emphasized the need for the members of the Legislative Council to be able to handle their internal crises and solve them within themselves without making it a public affair.
He maintained that there are more mature ways to handle their differences with their Chairmen in contrast to how they have handled them in the past.

He said: ”As even though in democracy, everyone is opportuned to air their views, it is imperative to know that there are mature ways of handling sensitive issues as legislators. There are hierarchies to leadership in terms of handling crises at the Local Government levels, before taking it to the state”.

He also cautioned the Leaders to desist from the trend of threatening Council Chairmen with impeachment notices, without proper dialogue and intervention of key stakeholders of the party, adding that in every sphere of life, in and out of politics, there will always be crisis and management of such crises is what shows the of maturity of the participants.
