Customs Agency Foils Attempted Arms Smuggling at Onne Port, Rivers Stat




A major arms smuggling attempt was foiled by the Nigerian Customs Service at the Onne Port in Rivers State on Monday July 1,2024. The Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, announced the seizure of a large shipment of arms and ammunition valued at N4.17 billion.


The contraband, hidden in a 40-foot container with the number MAEU165396, included a significant cache of weapons:

- 10 VC Verney Caron Gunmakers Jojef Magnum Silver Pump Action Rifles

- 50 VC Verney Caron Gunmaker Double Barrel Rifles

- 20 VC Verney Caron Gunmaker Single Barrel Rifles, Exclusive Series

- 112,000 pieces of Sterling High-Quality Live Ammunition








The arms and ammunition were found cleverly concealed within items such as doors, furniture, plumbing fittings, and leather bags. This interception marks a crucial victory in the fight against illegal arms trafficking in the region.
