Port Harcourt, Rivers State - The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant seizure of 636,600 bottles of codeine-based syrup worth N4.4 billion at the Port Harcourt Port Complex, Onne.
The drugs, concealed in shipments from India, were intercepted between December 9, 11 and 13. The successful operation was the result of intelligence-led efforts by NDLEA officers in collaboration with Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and other security agencies.
In addition to the seizure, the NDLEA has intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign. Sensitization programs have been conducted in various locations across the country, including schools, religious institutions, and communities.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa commended the agency's officers for their diligence and commitment to combating drug trafficking. He emphasized the agency's determination to disrupt the activities of drug cartels and protect the nation's youth from the dangers of drug abuse.
