NNPC Reasserts Port Harcourt Refinery's Operational Status

Port Harcourt, Nigeria - The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has firmly maintained that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is fully operational and actively producing petroleum products. This assertion comes amidst ongoing debates and skepticism surrounding the refinery's actual functionality.

During the recent commissioning of the NUPENG Towers in Lagos, Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, emphasized that the refinery is running at a commendable 70% capacity, capable of producing up to 200 trucks of petroleum products daily. To further dispel doubts, Kyari extended an open invitation to human rights activist Femi Falana and other skeptics to personally visit the refinery and assess its operational status firsthand.

The rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery has been a significant undertaking aimed at boosting domestic fuel production and reducing reliance on imported petroleum products. However, concerns have been raised about the refinery's actual output and its ability to meet the nation's growing energy demands.

NNPC's insistence on the refinery's operational efficiency is a crucial step towards addressing these concerns and restoring public confidence. A transparent and verifiable assessment of the refinery's performance will be essential to gauge its impact on the Nigerian oil and gas sector.
