Fubara Explains Surveyor-General Appointment: Merit, Not Origin

Port Harcourt, Rivers State -- Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has clarified the appointment of Peter Ogolo as the new Surveyor-General and Permanent Secretary. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at Government House, Port Harcourt, Fubara emphasized that Ogolo's selection was based on merit, seniority, and qualifications, not his origin from Opobo Local Government Area.

"This appointment is not because he is from Opobo," the governor stated. "He is the most senior and most qualified." Fubara noted that even the individual who interviewed Ogolo for the position confirmed his qualifications, with records available at the Civil Service Commission.

The governor shared a story illustrating Ogolo's dedication and resilience. He recounted how Ogolo, facing a difficult situation during his career, sought his advice. Fubara advised him to prioritize his well-being, a decision that ultimately led to his current appointment. "If he had stood to fight that he was the most senior and most qualified, he wouldn’t have been here today," Fubara remarked.

Addressing the new Surveyor-General, Fubara urged him to utilize his extensive experience, act with integrity, and avoid favoritism. "You just read your oath of office, do what is right," he instructed. "It is not about the faces you are going to see. Do what is right, be professional and defend the interest of the state.”
