Emohua, Rivers State -- Emohua Local Government Area has announced a N30 million bounty for information leading to the arrest of cult leaders and their sponsors responsible for a recent massacre in Obelle community. Over 25 residents have been killed in a brutal turf war between two rival cult groups, with many of the victims reported to be innocent bystanders.
The violence escalated last week, with reports of seven deaths on Thursday, four on Friday, and ten on Saturday. The community has been thrown into chaos, with residents fleeing their homes and seeking refuge elsewhere. Many are reportedly sleeping outdoors in a neighboring town.
Emohua Local Government Chairman, David Omereji, visited Obelle on Tuesday, expressing his dismay at the level of violence. "It is pathetic that in this modern society some hoodlums will create an unrest that will lead to loss of lives and properties of the people," he lamented. He urged residents to return home, assuring them of the council's commitment to protecting lives and property. The N30 million reward underscores the council's determination to bring the perpetrators to justice.
