The Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja was completely shut down on Monday as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) launched an indefinite nationwide strike. The main gates on Shehu Shagari Way were locked, barring judges, lawyers, staff, and litigants from entering the premises.
Announced by JUSUN's national leadership, the strike has halted all court-related activities. On May 30, the union directed all chapter chairmen to ensure members stayed home starting from midnight on June 1. The action stems from failed negotiations with the Minister of Labour and Employment, with JUSUN demanding payment of a five-month wage award, implementation of the ₦70,000 National Minimum Wage, and a 25/35 percent salary increase.
Attempts to reach union executives for comment were unsuccessful, as they were engaged in a meeting. Despite some chapters reportedly pulling out of the strike, the FHC remained inaccessible as of 9:48 a.m.
