Senator Dickson Slams Tinubu Over Silence on Rivers State Political Crisis

Seriake Dickson, the lawmaker representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, on Thursday criticized President Bola Tinubu for his silence amid the escalating political crisis in Rivers State. Dickson accused the Federal Government of enabling a “military-style suppression of democracy” in the state.

On May 18, 2025, President Tinubu imposed emergency rule in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the state House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule. Speaking to journalists after a joint National Assembly session marking Democracy Day, the former Bayelsa State governor expressed disappointment that Tinubu’s nationwide address failed to address what Dickson called a “constitutional aberration” unfolding in Rivers.
