Wike Denies Supporting Emergency Rule in Rivers, Claims No Conflict with Fubara

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has clarified that he does not support the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State and denies any personal conflict with Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, Wike stated that Fubara allowed himself to be manipulated by others to oppose him.

Wike emphasized that he would not have endorsed the emergency rule if consulted by President Tinubu, asserting that the declaration was intended to prevent Fubara’s impeachment amid the state’s political crisis. He described the turmoil within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers as driven by “undertakers” and condemned the governor for becoming a tool in the hands of his adversaries.

“I have no crisis with him [Fubara]. I’m not the President who declared a State of Emergency… I have never supported it,” Wike said, adding that the measure was taken to stabilize the state, not to target the governor. He further noted that the decision to lift the emergency rule lies solely with the President.
