🚨 Disaster in Eleme: Massive HYPREP Water Tank Collapses, Floods Community!

ELEME, Rivers State — Panic erupted in the Obolo-Ebube community of the Eleme Local Government Area this afternoon as a massive water tank, reportedly constructed under the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), suddenly collapsed.

The structural failure unleashed a torrent of water that aggressively flooded surrounding homes, causing significant property damage. Eyewitnesses confirmed the deluge destroyed valuable items, though thankfully, no lives were lost in the devastating incident.

🛑 Freshly Commissioned, Freshly Collapsed

What makes this incident particularly alarming is the timing: the collapsed tank was reportedly commissioned less than two months ago.

This catastrophe raises serious questions regarding the quality and integrity of HYPREP-commissioned projects in the state, especially considering this is not an isolated event.

🤯 Déjà Vu in Rivers

The collapse in Eleme comes barely three weeks after a similar disaster occurred in Khana LGA. In late October, another HYPREP-built water tank failed in the Gwara community, raising the spectre of shoddy construction across the remediation project sites.

Community members are now demanding immediate answers and assurances from HYPREP regarding the safety and longevity of the infrastructure they are installing across the region.
