Big Win for Rivers State: Port Harcourt International Airport Secures Global Certification to Drive Investment

PORT HARCOURT – In a major boost for the economy of Rivers State and the South-South region, the Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA), Omagwa, has officially received its Aerodrome Certification from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

This landmark achievement is being hailed as a "game-changer" that will trigger a massive influx of foreign and local investment into the state.

A New Era for Ease of Doing Business in PH

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Mrs. Lynda Ezike, the South-South Regional Manager of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), highlighted that this certification is more than just a piece of paper—it is a global seal of approval.

According to Ezike, who was recently honored as the Best Regional Manager of the Year 2025, the certification proves that the Port Harcourt airport now meets the highest international benchmarks for infrastructure, safety, and operational procedures.

“This certification strategically positions Port Harcourt for global recognition. It’s about enhancing the ease of doing business and showing the world that our facility is safe, standard, and ready for serious partnership,” Ezike stated.

What This Means for Travelers and Investors

The rigorous certification process, which concluded on December 19, 2025, ensures that PHIA is now on par with top-tier international airports. For the average "Pitakwa" resident and traveler, this means:

  • Increased Safety: Strict adherence to global aviation safety management.

  • More Airlines: Enhanced confidence for international carriers to launch new routes to Port Harcourt.

  • Job Creation: Boosted investor confidence leads to more commercial activity within the airport hub.

  • Improved Infrastructure: Continuous upgrades to maintain the hard-earned NCAA standards.

A Season of Excellence

The NCAA issued the certificates to both Kano and Port Harcourt airports as part of a nationwide drive to institutionalize global standards. This success is the result of a "rigorous and structured" collaboration between FAAN and the NCAA.

Mrs. Ezike reaffirmed her team's commitment to upholding these high standards, ensuring that the Port Harcourt International Airport remains a shining light for aviation in West Africa.
