PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA The Energy and Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (EMR), Rivers State Council, has officially opened a localized environmental campaign in the state capital to mark the global World Oceans Day celebrations.
At an early morning symposium held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, media stakeholders joined forces with the Quest for Growth and Development Foundation to push for stricter sanitation laws across host communities.
The forum noted that maritime waste management must be urgently revamped to protect the state's intricate river networks from heavy plastic pollution and industrial oil runoff. The group is demanding an immediate policy roadmap from regional municipal boards to ensure the preservation of local marine ecosystems.
