Building Our Own "Dubai" in Rivers: Governor Fubara Seals Major FG Partnership to Revamp Tourism & Creative Economy

Rivers State is set for a massive economic and cultural transformation as Governor Siminalayi Fubara unveils bold new steps to position the state as Nigeria’s ultimate leisure and entertainment capital.

If you thought economic development in Rivers was limited strictly to asphalt, concrete, and physical infrastructure, think again. Governor Fubara has made it clear that entertainment, hospitality, and tourism are taking center stage.

The Big Deal: Federal Collaboration & The "Renewed Hope" Vision

At a high-profile signing ceremony held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Government officially signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government.

Represented by the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, the partnership falls under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Cultural Project aimed at decentralizing economic growth, empowering the creative sector, and driving massive job creation across sub-national regions.

Commending the state's strategic positioning, Minister Musawa praised Governor Fubara's proactive investments in culture and tourism, affirming that Rivers State is a vital cornerstone for transforming Nigeria into Africa's creative hub.

"If We Can’t Go to Dubai, Let’s Build Our Own"

In a statement that has since sparked excitement across social media and local circles, Governor Fubara emphasized the vision behind the state's aggressive tourism push:

If not for this crisis in Iran, the closest tourism destination that everybody yearns for is Dubai, to go there and enjoy. So what we are trying to do here is, if we can’t go to Dubai, let’s provide our own Dubai in Rivers State. If we can’t go to Qatar, let’s provide our own Qatar or Spain in Oyorokoto.”

True to this vision, the state isn't just stopping at signatures. The governor has pledged that tangible, visible transformations will hit the ground running, with specific milestones expected to materialize within the next four months.

Key Highlights of the Tourism Push:

The New Tourist Beach Project: Driven through a strategic public-private partnership with Landmark, work on the state's new tourist beach project is moving at a fast pace. Governor Fubara confirmed that the first phase of this flagship development is locked in to be completed and opened for public use by December.

Unlocking Oyorokoto's Coastal Potential: Highlighting the strategic impact of the Ngo-Atlantic-Oyorokoto Road project in Andoni Local Government Area, the administration is opening up access to one of Nigeria’s finest coastline beaches and rich local wildlife habitats.

Diversifying Beyond Oil: By injecting resources into hospitality, leisure spots, and the creative industry, the administration aims to create sustainable economic avenues for Rivers youths and small businesses.
