In a major win for public health infrastructure in the state, the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) has announced monumental strides in its ongoing drive to bring affordable, quality healthcare closer to the grassroots.
Driven by strategic multi-sectoral collaborations most notably with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) the state health insurance agency has successfully surpassed enrolment targets set by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
Breaking Down Barriers: The Power of the NIMC Partnership
Speaking on the recent milestones, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Agala, revealed that aligning enrolment processes directly with National Identification Number (NIN) registrations has unlocked a smoother, more streamlined registration pathway for residents.
By tackling administrative hurdles head-on, RIVCHPP has continued to expand its safety net, focusing heavily on shielding vulnerable families, informal sector workers, and rural communities from the debilitating cycle of catastrophic out-of-pocket health spending.
Pushing Toward the 1-Million Mark
With thousands of lives already impacted across an expanding network of primary, secondary, and tertiary health facilities statewide, RIVCHPP has set its sights even higher:
Targeting 1 Million Residents: The agency has intensified grassroots sensitization campaigns with a firm target of enrolling at least one million residents into the health insurance scheme.
Reaching the Vulnerable: Flexible packages tailored for civil servants, families, market traders, and rural populations ensure that no one is left behind under Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s healthcare mandate.
As public health campaigns scale up across the 23 Local Government Areas, RIVCHPP continues to urge residents who are yet to register to take advantage of the digitalized scheme and safeguard their well-being.
