MAJOR CRIME UPDATE: Rivers Police Crack Down on Violent Gangs, Make Major Arrests Over Killings and Security Incidents

The Rivers State Police Command has stepped up its onslaught against violent crime across the state, recording major breakthroughs following a series of high-profile security breaches, attacks on law enforcement personnel, and localized violence.

Recent intelligence-led operations have put criminal networks on notice as the Command moves aggressively to restore absolute calm across flashpoints in the state.

🚨 Crackdown on Cop Killers: Three Suspects Nabbed, Stolen AK-47s Recovered

In a major victory for security operatives, the Command's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) successfully apprehended three prime suspects linked to the brutal killing of two police officers during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Aluu community, Ikwerre Local Government Area.

The tragic June 29 incident saw officers ambushed while on duty, resulting in the death of one officer on the spot and severe injuries to another whose leg was tragically amputated before he succumbed to his injuries. The assailants had previously fled the scene carting away service firearms.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, sustained tactical tracking led to the arrest of the suspects: Maduabuchi Emeka (alias “Doctor”), Chinedu Owhor, and Kamachi Joe.

Recovered Exhibits: Operatives successfully recovered three AK-47 rifles (including those carted away from the slain officers) alongside one Scorpion rifle.

Police confirm that the suspects have made vital confessions linking them to other violent crimes in the region, while a manhunt is actively underway for the fourth fleeing gang member.

🔍 Rising Tensions and Investigations in Bori and Omoku

The recent security updates follow a tense wave of targeted violence involving local security infrastructure. Security agencies have intensified probes into the recent killing of Letam Kinee (aka Langa), a former Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Khana Local Government Area, who was gunned down by yet-to-be-identified assailants in Bori.

This incident closely mirrored another tragedy in Omoku (Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA), where the local commander of the Omoku branch of the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Ozoemela Stephen Wokocha, and three others were brutally killed. The command has launched comprehensive intelligence sweeps to fish out the perpetrators behind these localized killings, which have sparked fresh anxieties among residents.

🛡️ CP Adepoju Issues Stern Warning to Criminal Elements

Reacting to the recent operational breakthroughs, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, commended the grit and professionalism of the tactical teams. He issued an uncompromising warning that the Command will leave no stone unturned in hunting down anyone brazen enough to target security operatives or disrupt public peace.

"The breakthrough demonstrates the Command's resolve to ensure that those who attack police officers or engage in violent crimes have no hiding place in Rivers State," CP Adepoju stated.

Aligning with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the police hierarchy has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property. Residents across the state particularly in volatile business and residential hubs are continually urged to partner with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and providing timely, credible information.
