UPTH RESIDENT DOCTOR ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED BY NAVAL OFFICERS

Port Harcourt Blog has been informed about a case of assault on a doctor in University of Port harcourt Teaching Hospital on 21/04/2020. He was assaulted by 2 naval officers while carrying out his duties in the hospital. According to the Association of Resident Doctors (UPTH Chapter ) this was because the patient insisted on having an investigation done despite having not paid for it. The Doctor was hit in the right eye and almost whipped with the officer’s orderly’s belt if not for the timely intervention of those at the scene.

In these troubling times of the COVID-19 pandemic, when doctors and other health workers are putting their lives at risk just to save their patients’ lives, with standing ovations across the world, a Nigerian naval officer chose instead to assault a doctor in Nigeria. The Association of Resident Doctors  condemned this act  stating that this is one of the myriads of hazards doctors and health workers are exposed to.

Please find below a soft copy of the written notice sent to the Naval commander.

We are yet to get a response  from the Navy.
