A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted bail to the tune of N20 million in like sum to a 56 years old man for allegedly defrauding one Naoye Edum of seven million naira being payment allegedly exchanged for a landed property.
The first defendant/Accused person Angel Umani, a native of Abua/Odual Local Government Area had allegedly sold the said landed property located at Captain Amangala in Borokiri to Edum without his wife's consent even though the property reportedly belonged to the both of them.
Hence Edum initiated an advanced fee fraud against him following his refusal to refund the seven million naira he paid for the land after the purchase hit brick wall.
Meanwhile his wife had also instituted a legal action against him currently pending at the Port Harcourt High Court which raised legal impediments between them and resulted in the stalement in the sale of the land.
The Magistrate held that the offence is a bailable one and referred the file to DPP for advice, and ordered the the defendant to produce a level 14 civil servant with Rivers State Government, who should have a property worth N20million and with the document deposited in court.
The court Adjourned to Tuesday 22nd September 2020 to hear the matter of advance free fraud instituted against the defendant.
However the Lawyer to the defendant promised the court he might likely settle the matter before the next adjourned date and will duly brief the court as stated.
