Schools in Rivers State are to wait for the state government to announce a resumption date for the exit classes even though the federal government had said students in exit classes should resume on Tuesday ahead of WAEC exams on August 17.
A State Ministry of Education notice to all principals, headteachers, school heads, proprietors of schools in Rivers State said an appropriate resumption date will be announced in due course.
The notice said the Ministry’s staff are going round schools in the state to ensure compliance with NCDC guidelines against the spread of #COVID19.
It said the Rivers State government is working round the clock to ensure the readiness of all schools for the resumption of JSS3 and SS3 students only.
Last week, the Rivers state government distributed COVID-19 Hygiene Kits to 257 Public Schools. The sanitary and hygiene kits included hand sanitizers, gloves, face masks, detergents, running water buckets, and disinfectants.
It was said to be part of the government’s effort to ensure that students are not infected with the coronavirus as they return to school for their exit examinations.
Recall that the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools had last week warned that the two weeks interval given to schools to prepare candidates for the August 17th exam will amount to Mass failure in the exit exam as it is not enough.
The two weeks revision date starts tomorrow, Tuesday August 4th.
City News gathered the Rivers State Education Ministry will likely announce a date for resumption of schools in the state within the week.
