Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Rivers State Government has taken decisive action against three companies operating in the Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout for non-compliance with building regulations. The affected companies, including two oil and gas servicing firms and a training institution, were sealed off by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
According to the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Evans Bipi, the companies were found to have violated various building codes and regulations, failing to meet the required standards for monitoring, verification, and compliance. Despite repeated invitations from the ministry, the companies neglected to address the issues raised.
“The sealing of these premises was not intended to disrupt operations but to compel compliance with safety, quality, and other regulatory standards,” Bipi explained.
David Ogbanga, Chairman of the Special Committee on Development Control, further clarified that the companies failed to provide essential documents such as development permits, plans, and approvals for fencing and renovation.
Meanwhile, Governor Siminalayi Fubara reaffirmed his administration's commitment to delivering quality projects and prioritizing the welfare of the people, regardless of political challenges. He highlighted the payment of the N85,000 minimum wage to civil servants, surpassing the national minimum wage.
The governor also emphasized that the state government has not resorted to borrowing to fund projects or pay salaries, demonstrating its prudent financial management. The inauguration of the reconstructed Okehi-Umuola-Eberi Link Road is a testament to the administration's dedication to infrastructure development and improving the lives of Rivers people.
