Amaewhule-led Rivers Assembly Condemns Fubara for Presenting Budget to Factional Lawmakers

The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, strongly condemned Governor Siminialayi Fubara for presenting the 2025 Appropriation Bill to a faction of three lawmakers.

The Assembly, during its 88th sitting on Tuesday, described the Governor's action as "recalcitrant, lawless, and a demonstration of disdain for judicial pronouncements."

The lawmakers emphasized that Governor Fubara, by presenting the budget to a select group, had effectively disregarded the rulings of competent courts, including the Court of Appeal, which has repeatedly affirmed the legitimacy of the Amaewhule-led Assembly.

Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Dumle Maol, presented the Court of Appeal's recent judgment to the House, which reaffirmed the Amaewhule-led Assembly as the only legitimate legislative body in Rivers State.

Maol accused Governor Fubara of "scornful disposition" towards the court's ruling, despite initiating the case himself. He characterized the Governor's actions as "impunity" and a blatant disregard for the rule of law.

Speaker Amaewhule echoed these sentiments, stating that the Governor had demonstrated a belief that he is above the law and the Constitution of the country. He warned that such actions could lead to anarchy and vowed that the Assembly would address these issues within the confines of the law.
