Rivers Assembly Slams Fubara's Appointments, Demands Disclaimer

Port Harcourt, Rivers State - The Rivers State House of Assembly has strongly condemned Governor Siminialayi Fubara's recent appointments to the State House of Assembly Service Commission and the Local Government Service Commission, labeling them as illegal and a display of "contemptuous impunity."

During its 122nd legislative sitting on Wednesday, the Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Chike Amaewhule, expressed deep concern over Governor Fubara's "continuous disregard and disdain for judgments of courts, extant laws of Rivers State, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

The issue was brought to the forefront by Majority Leader Hon. Major Jack, who described the individuals purportedly appointed and sworn-in by the Governor as "impostors." Assembly members emphasized that they had received no official communication from the Governor regarding these appointments, nor had they screened or confirmed any nominees, as required by law.

Speaker Amaewhule asserted that the Governor's actions were a direct defiance of existing state laws and a recent Court of Appeal judgment. He reiterated that the Supreme Court's dismissal of Governor Fubara's appeal solidified the Court of Appeal's ruling, which affirmed him as the legitimate Speaker.

The Assembly members questioned Governor Fubara's "recklessness and malfeasance," highlighting that such actions constituted misconduct.

Following a vote, the Assembly unanimously directed the Clerk to publish a disclaimer, formally rejecting the Governor's appointments and declaring them illegal. The Assembly's move signals a further escalation of tensions between the legislative and executive branches in Rivers State.
