Port Harcourt Council Cracks Down on Illegal Ticket Collection, Orders Arrests

 


Port Harcourt, Rivers State -
 The Port Harcourt City Local Government has issued a stern warning against the unauthorized collection of daily ticket fees from commercial motorists, declaring the practice illegal and ordering the arrest of those responsible.

The council, led by Chairman Hon. Ichemati Ezebunwo, has condemned the activities of individuals and groups illegally collecting fees from motorists operating along key routes including Ikwerre Road, Old Port Harcourt Township, and Mile 3.

In an official statement, Chairman Ezebunwo clarified that the council has not authorized any person or entity to collect these daily ticket fees. He emphasized that the collection is illegal and constitutes harassment of commercial drivers.

To address the issue, the council has directed law enforcement agencies to apprehend anyone found engaging in this illegal activity. Those arrested are to be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

The Port Harcourt City Local Government has reiterated its commitment to creating a business-friendly environment for all stakeholders. The council warned that those who continue to engage in the illegal collection of fees will face the full force of the law. This decisive action aims to protect commercial motorists from extortion and ensure that business activities are conducted within the bounds of the law.
