Rivers Sole Administrator Affirms Fubara-Funded Trans-Kalabari Road Project, Cites Economic Benefits

Port Harcourt- For the second time since his appointment, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas, has publicly acknowledged that a project initiated by suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara was adequately funded. This confirmation comes following an inspection of the N225 billion Trans-Kalabari Road Highway Project.

Addressing newsmen after the inspection, Vice Admiral Ibas stated that the contractor should proceed with the project, assuring them that funding was not a constraint. This declaration echoes his previous assessment of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex project, where he also confirmed that funding was not an issue, contradicting earlier claims that Fubara had neglected the project.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his state of emergency broadcast, had alluded to Fubara’s alleged inaction regarding the rebuilding of the Assembly complex. However, Fubara countered, stating the project was at 80% completion. Vice Admiral Ibas' subsequent inspection confirmed progress and assured contractors of timely funding, removing any potential excuses for delays.

Now, with the Trans-Kalabari Highway Project, the Sole Administrator has again endorsed the project's funding status. He emphasized the project's significant economic potential, highlighting its role in alleviating socio-economic challenges faced by riverine communities.

"We are also very much aware of the very difficult, challenging terrain around here, in terms of communication, and communicating between communities. This project, when completed, I think, will boost the socio-economic life of the state and the nation as a whole," Vice Admiral Ibas stated. He further stressed the project's importance, stating that its completion is “imperative” for enhancing the socio-economic status of Rivers State and Nigeria.

These confirmations by the Sole Administrator regarding the adequate funding of Fubara-initiated projects provide a contrasting narrative to earlier allegations and underscore the projects' continued progress.
