Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, has told residents that the challenges the state is experiencing will ultimately make the community stronger.
While encouraging his supporters to remain committed, Governor Fubara expressed his confidence that "we will emerge stronger" from this period.
According to a statement released on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the Governor made these remarks while receiving a delegation of Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic organizations, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs. They visited him at his private residence in Port Harcourt for a Sallah greeting.
Addressing the delegation, Governor Fubara encouraged them and his supporters to have faith in the unfolding events, stating: "This is a time for love, sharing, and sacrifice. Your visit to share in our difficulties and your prayers are deeply appreciated. As people of faith, we believe that everything has a purpose, and I strongly believe this situation will lead us to a positive outcome."
He acknowledged that the current political situation in the state might be disheartening for many, but suggested that there may be factors at play beyond what is immediately apparent.
Governor Fubara reaffirmed his dedication to fairness and equal opportunity, emphasizing that his administration aims for a society where everyone is treated justly. He stated, "We believe in equality, and if standing by our principles brings challenges, we accept them. What is most important is that we uphold truth and what is right."
The Governor expressed regret for not being able to formally connect with the Muslim community during their recent celebrations but assured them that the relationship between religious groups and the government would be strengthened once the present uncertainties are resolved.
He also assured the leaders that their pending requests would be considered after the current political situation is concluded.
Urging patience and perseverance, Governor Fubara used a reference from religious history, saying, "If patience was shown even in significant events of the past, then it remains a valuable quality during our present circumstances."
However, he also called on his supporters not to be provoked by those who might want to create unrest in the state.
"Their aim may be to cause trouble and disrupt people's lives and livelihoods. We will not allow that. We will continue to act peacefully and with respect for established authorities to ensure our state remains an example for others in Nigeria," he emphasized.
Earlier, speaking on behalf of the Muslim community, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor expressed their support for Governor Fubara, assuring him of their prayers and encouragement as he navigates the state's current political challenges.
Alhaji Uhor stated that the majority of Muslims in Rivers State support Governor Fubara because of his inclusive approach to governance and his recognition of the Islamic faith within the state.
According to the Muslim leader, unlike the previous administration which declared Rivers as predominantly one religious faith, Governor Fubara, upon taking office, acknowledged the state as having a majority of one faith while still promoting inclusivity for all.
Encouraging the Governor to remain steadfast, Alhaji Uhor reminded him of the Islamic principle that patience is rewarded.
He suggested that the present challenges are in line with religious teachings where individuals in positions of influence are tested.
However, the Muslim leader also called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the current situation in Rivers State and restore Governor Fubara's full authority, emphasizing that the Governor has been leading effectively despite the challenges.
During the visit, prayers were offered for Governor Fubara, his family, Rivers State, and Nigeria as a whole.
