Rivers State: Court Sets May 26 for Hearing on Fubara, Lawmakers’ Suspension Lawsuit

A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has scheduled May 26, 2025, for the hearing of a lawsuit filed by Dr. Farah Dagogo, a former House of Representatives member, challenging the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Odu, and Rivers State House of Assembly members by President Bola Tinubu.

On March 18, 2025, President Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State, citing security concerns, and announced the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, and the state lawmakers. He also appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator of the state.

Dagogo, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, filed the suit (FHC/PH/CS/50/2025) on April 9, 2025, arguing that the President’s actions were unconstitutional and exceeded his authority.

During Monday’s session, the plaintiff’s counsel, Cosmas Enweluzo, SAN, confirmed that all defendants had been served and declared readiness to proceed with the case.
