A tragic accident in the Eliozu area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, claimed the lives of at least three people on Monday night when a speeding car veered off the road near Unity Filling Station in Port Harcourt. The vehicle struck passersby on a walkway, knocking down electric poles before coming to a stop.
Eyewitnesses reported that six individuals were found lifeless at the scene. However, the Rivers State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed three deaths, with three other victims receiving treatment in a hospital.
The driver and occupants of the car, described by sources as young men possibly involved in internet fraud, fled the scene. The vehicle has been impounded, and police from the Rumuokoro Special Area recovered the bodies and secured the site. An investigation is underway to apprehend those responsible.
