Rivers State Government Announces NEMA Deployment for Flood Sensitization

Port Harcourt, July 10, 2025 – The Rivers State Government has revealed that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will deploy teams to Rivers State and other high-risk regions to educate residents on flood preparedness. The initiative aims to raise awareness and equip communities with knowledge to mitigate flood-related risks.

However, the announcement has sparked debate, with some questioning the timing and effectiveness of sensitization efforts. Critics argue that more immediate action, such as infrastructure improvements or relief measures, may be needed to address the looming threat of flooding in vulnerable areas.

“Is sensitization on flood preparedness what’s needed now?” one resident asked, echoing sentiments shared across social media platforms. As flood risks rise, the state government and NEMA face growing pressure to balance proactive education with tangible solutions.
