Port Harcourt, Rivers State – The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has committed to collaborating with Governor Siminalayi Fubara upon his reinstatement on September 18, 2025, following the end of the six-month state of emergency declared in the state.
APC state chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, made this pledge during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, while expressing gratitude to Rivers residents, the party’s national leadership, and President Bola Tinubu for their support during the recent local government elections. The APC secured 20 out of 23 chairmanship seats in the polls held on August 30, 2025.
“September 18 marks exactly six months since the governor’s suspension,” Okocha stated. “As the state of emergency expires, he is expected to return to office. The APC and the State Assembly will work with him, but we will hold him accountable and criticize any actions we deem harmful or misguided.”
Okocha revealed that the APC strategically chose not to field candidates in Obio-Akpor, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, and Port Harcourt City councils, citing the significant influence of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike in those areas. These three councils were won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He further expressed the APC’s ambition to make Rivers State “100 percent APC” and extended an invitation to opposition politicians, including Wike, to join the party to foster “absolute peace” in the state.
