In a major move to modernize the state’s educational infrastructure, the Rivers State Government has officially inaugurated the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS) Coordination Unit.
This initiative, which marks a significant shift toward data-driven governance, aims to streamline educational planning, improve resource management, and accelerate digital transformation across schools in the state.
A Vision for a Modern Classroom
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Port Harcourt, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, highlighted that the launch is a core component of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara’s vision to build a globally competitive education system.
"This is a milestone for our commitment to innovation and accountability," Dr. Nwagor stated. "By embracing the DNEMIS platform, we are moving away from outdated manual processes and stepping into an era where evidence-based decisions will guide our educational policies."
What is DNEMIS?
Developed by the Federal Ministry of Education, the DNEMIS serves as a unified digital platform designed to:
Centralize Data: Collect, validate, and secure educational records from all levels of learning.
Enable Real-Time Planning: Provide stakeholders with the accurate, timely data needed for effective policy formulation and monitoring.
Boost Accountability: Ensure that resources are allocated where they are needed most, directly benefiting schools and students.
A Call for Collaboration
The Commissioner charged the newly inaugurated unit to operate with the highest levels of integrity and diligence. He emphasized that the success of this system relies on a collective effort, calling on Local Government Education Authorities, school administrators, and development partners to provide their full support.
"The accuracy of our data determines the quality of our future policies," Dr. Nwagor added. "We are counting on every institution in Rivers State to cooperate with the Coordination Unit to ensure our educational intelligence is reliable and actionable."
Looking Ahead
The Director of Procurement, Research, and Statistics, Dr. Pius Sibiete, expressed his gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Education and state stakeholders, assuring them that the unit is fully prepared to deliver on its mandate.
With the launch of the DNEMIS Coordination Unit, Rivers State is now firmly positioned among the nation's leaders in educational technology, setting a foundation for improved learning outcomes and sustainable growth for the state's students.
