If you or someone you know needs free medical care, this week is your opportunity. Mayor of Port Harcourt City LGA, Sir Allwell Ihunda, has flagged off the 2026 Optimized Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW), running from June 8 to June 12, 2026 across Port Harcourt City and Rivers State.
This is not a seminar. This is not a registration exercise. This is free healthcare delivered directly to your community.
Who Is This For?
This programme covers women, children, men, and families. Here is a breakdown of exactly what is available and who qualifies:
For Pregnant Women
Pregnant women will have access to antenatal registration, free delivery services at designated health facilities, and Tetanus-Diphtheria vaccination.
For Women of Childbearing Age
Women of childbearing age will benefit from cervical cancer screening, free voluntary HIV counseling and testing, as well as Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) services.
For Children (0–5 Years)
Children between the ages of zero and five years will receive routine immunization services, nutrition screening and support, and Vitamin A supplementation.
Where to Go
The exercise is aimed at bringing essential healthcare services closer to residents through Primary Health Care facilities located in communities across Rivers State.
Visit your nearest Primary Health Care (PHC) centre in Port Harcourt City LGA. Services are free and no appointment is needed. Simply walk in during working hours between now and Thursday, June 12.
Why This Matters
Nigeria’s maternal and child mortality rates remain among the highest in the world. Programs like this one free, community-based, and accessible are exactly what closes the gap between statistics and survival. Mayor Ihunda and the PHALGA administration deserve credit for bringing this directly to Port Harcourt communities.
But the programme only works if people show up. Share this post. Tell your neighbour. Call your sister, your cousin, your friend who just had a baby or is currently pregnant. Five days. Free services. No excuse not to go.
