Garden City Transporters Back Gov Fubara’s Directives On Main Airport Road Corridor Access

PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA — Transport operators and commercial motorists across the Omagwa and Igwuruta axes have voiced strong support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s latest directive concerning traffic management. The administration recently reiterated that the main Airport Road corridor will eventually be preserved exclusively for airport-bound travelers and logistical operations.

The state government's position comes as contractors push past 65% completion on the new 7.1-kilometer Ipo-Igwuruta Airport Road bypass project.

During a weekend brief monitored in Port Harcourt, community leaders acknowledged that the dedicated bypass will permanently insulate the international airport corridor from local communal protests, which frequently caused economic gridlock in previous months. The bypass is on track for an official commissioning before October 2026.
