PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA A major political rift has erupted within the Ogoni ethnic nationality this morning following sharp criticisms leveled against the Chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Senator Magnus Abe, by local advocacy groups.
In an official communiqué issued in Port Harcourt today, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Sir Joe Korka-Waadah, Executive Director of the Compassionate Heart Foundation, openly accused Senator Abe of championing "political procrastination."
The group's grievance stems from Abe’s public alignment with Ikwerre-born Hon. Kingsley Chinda (APC's frontline guber candidate) over Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, an Ogoni indigene running under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) banner. The foundation argued that the collective leadership aspirations of over 7 million Rivers people shouldn't be alternated between just a few individuals, sparking fresh debates across Port Harcourt political circles.
