Rivers High Court Rejects Suit Seeking to Unseat Three Elected Local Government Chairmen

The Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed a lawsuit filed by three aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who sought to nullify the nomination of the party's chairmanship candidates in the last local government council elections.

The legal challenge specifically targeted the election victories of the incumbent local government chairmen of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA), Allwell Ihunda; Obio-Akpor LGA, Dr. Gift Worlu; and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA (ONELGA), Chukwuemeka Nwabueze. In his final judgment, the presiding judge threw out the suit, ruling that the applicants lacked the required legal standing to void an election that had already been concluded and democratically settled by the electorate. The ruling brings a massive sigh of relief to the local government councils across the capital city.
