Today, Saturday, June 20, 2026, all eyes are on the Rivers South-East Senatorial District as voters head to the polls to elect a new representative in the Senate.
This crucial by election follows the unfortunate passing of the former Senator, the late Barinada Mpigi, who served the district until his death this past February. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the electoral process, aiming to fill the vacant seat and restore full representation for the people of the district.
Where to Vote
Voting is currently taking place across the seven Local Government Areas that constitute the senatorial district:
Khana
Gokana
Tai
Eleme
Andoni
Opobo/Nkoro
Oyigbo
Security agencies have been deployed across these areas to ensure the safety of voters and the integrity of the polling units. Residents are encouraged to exercise their franchise peacefully and to remain orderly throughout the process.
