Road Cleared: Rivers Police Smash Car Theft Syndicates, Track Down Vehicles Across State Lines

The Rivers State Police Command has recorded major victories in its sustained war against organized crime, dealing a severe blow to dangerous car theft rings operating within and outside the state.

Through intelligence-led operations spearheaded by the Command's tactical units, operatives have successfully dismantled major syndicates, arrested key suspects, and recovered multiple stolen vehicles.

Breaking the Chain: Inside the Interstate Syndicate Busts

Vehicle owners across Port Harcourt have faced mounting anxieties over car snatching, but recent police breakthroughs show the net is tightening around criminal networks.

The Multi-State Sweep: In one of the most extensive intelligence operations, police units dismantled a sophisticated interstate car-theft ring. The syndicate operating across at least eight states including Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Kano, and Delta specialized in tracking, stealing, and moving vehicles across borders, with some units even smuggling vehicles or parts toward the Cameroon border.

Targeting Local Hideouts: Recent tactical sweeps by the Command's Violent Crime Response Units have continued to smoke out remnants of these rings. Operations spanning areas like Obio/Akpor and Diobu led to the apprehension of syndicate kingpins and the recovery of several utility trucks and saloon cars.

A Trans-National Trail: Stolen SUV Tracked Down After Years

In a testament to the persistence of security intelligence, law enforcement tracking recently spotlighted vehicles stolen right out of Port Harcourt years prior.

A striking case involved a Toyota Highlander originally reported stolen from Rumuodumaya, Port Harcourt, back in September 2021. Following an extraordinary cross-border and inter-state odyssey that saw the vehicle illegally moved into the Niger Republic, brought back through Sokoto State, and resold through Kaduna, joint state intelligence units finally flagged and recovered the SUV during data verifications.

Police Caution and Call to Action

While commending the operatives for their relentless professionalism, the Rivers State Police Command has urged motorists and commercial drivers to remain vigilant especially when engaging in unfamiliar transit arrangements or leaving vehicles in unsecured locations.

The police have reassured residents that investigations remain active to hunt down remaining collaborators at large, emphasizing that Rivers State will continue to be a hostile ground for criminal syndicates.
