IKWERRE YOUTH MOVEMENT COLLAPSES INTO GDI

The All Progressive Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, on Wednesday suffered another setback as scores of its supporters under the aegis of Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) collapsed into the Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI) in Port Harcourt.
IYM is a pro APC group in Rivers State comprising of youths in the four Ikwerre speaking Local Government Areas, such as Port Harcourt City, Ikwerre, Obio/Akpor, and Emohua. While GDI is a pro PDP group which membership cuts across the state.
The aggrieved IYM members were led by Mr Chijioke Kennedy Akaninwa of Obio/Akpor LGA, one of the leaders of IYM.
Mr Akaninwa described his purported suspension by IYM as childish, saying that he was suspended because they heard that he was leaving with over two thousand people.
He also took a swipe at his former group for accusing him on radio of stealing from the group.
According to him, "All LGAs of Ikwerre are fully represented here. As of 3 days ago we decided to dump IYM. I was accused on Nigeria Info yesterday of stealing from IYM.
"We (IYM) were supposed to have a programme of IYM here, but PG hijacked it to Isiokpo because nothing was happening there. I talked and they did not listen to me. I don't belong to where they can't listen to me.
"They announced on radio that I have been suspended because they heard that I am leaving with over two thousand people ".
Mr Godson Owhor Igwe, Emohua Coordinator of the IYM defectors, said that the suffering APC is causing in Nigeria is too much. And by joining PDP, they will not regret.
Mr George Somiari spoke on behalf of the Port Harcourt City defectors while Mr Chidi Nwankpa spoke on behalf of Obio/Akpor defectors. They all denounced  IYM and APC and subsequently pledged their total supports to GDI and Gov Nyesom Wike.
Receiving the aggrieved Ikwerre Youth Movement decampees into Grassroot Development Initiative, Chief Hon Bright Amewhule, the President General of GDI, announced that they were automatic members of PDP from henceforth.
"Automatically, you all are now members of GDI and PDP. When you join GDI, you have also joined PDP ", Hon Amewhule stated.
The GDI PG thereafter handed the defectors over to Mr Chidi Amadi, a GDI and PDP chieftain in Ikwerre.
Goodwill messages came from GDI and PDP members like Barr Glory Emeh Glory, Hon Charlse Wobodo, Hon Noble Amadi, new Obio/Akpor CTC Chairman, Hon Samuel Nwanosike, GDI Secretary General, amongst others.
